In October, Club Nippon showed the film Always Sanchome no Yuhi, a heart-warming story about life in post-war Japan. The film follows the lives of several ordinary people for one year during the construction of Tokyo Tower. The original date for the film show was October 28, but the film was so popular that seat reservations soon exceeded the Information and Cultural Centre’s capacity and it was decided to hold a second and a third showing on October 29 and 30. The film was very well received by the audience, several of whom mentioned that they had seen it before, but liked it so much that they wanted to see it again.
The film won 12 prizes at the 2006 Japanese Academy Awards, including the awards for Best Film, Director, Actor and Screenplay. It also won the audience award at the 2006 New York Asian Film Festival.
