International Energy Seminar on "Smart Community Proposals for Reconstructing Disaster-Affected Areas" and a knowledgeable person was invited from Lolland by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Japan



The Government of Japan and Fukushima Prefecture has jointly hosted an International Energy Seminar on "Smart Community Proposals for Reconstructing the Disaster-Affected Areas" in Fukushima Prefecture on March 2.

Many local municipalities damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, including Fukushima Prefecture, are seeking to create new communities, for example, by encouraging the use of renewable energies, and to disseminate this effort in Japan and abroad. Based on the above-mentioned intention, the International Energy Seminar hasl been held in order to contribute to the reconstruction of the disaster affected areas.

The Seminar was participated in by citizens and local government officials from the disaster-affected areas, experts and company representatives in fields related to smart community, and the ministries, agencies and organizations concerned. At the Seminar, proposals for realizing smart communities in the disaster-affected areas was formed through discussions by energy-related international organizations and specialists from Japan and foreign countries with reference to the advanced initiatives of smart community around the world.

Mr. Leo Christensen, Member of city council in Lolland and Development Manager of Lolland municipality was invited to the seminar as panelist. He has introduced Lolland’s progressive approach to Japan in Panel Discussion I "Leading-edge Projects in Japan and abroad" of the seminar and he joined the discussion.
