Ambassador Uyama Attended the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima

On August 6th, Ambassador Uyama attended the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima at the Cold War Museum REGAN Vest in North Jutland. Mr. Torsten Schack Pedersen, Minister for Resilience and Preparedness, Mr. Jesper Greth, Mayor of Rebild Municipality, Mr. Per Bach Laursen, Mayor of Vesthimmerlands Municipality, representatives from the Museum, and many other participants, joined in the event.
 
In his speech, the Ambassador offered his sincere condolences on all those who perished during the World War II, and stressed Japan’s postwar pledge never to repeat the devastation of war and its mission of conveying the suffering of the atomic bombings to the world as well as efforts towards the ultimate goal for a world without nuclear weapons. He also mentioned the deepening of the strategic partnership between Japan and Denmark and praised the visit by His Majesty the King to Hiroshima in April as a peace message to the world.
 
The Ambassador expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Cold War Museum REGAN Vest for organizing this meaningful event and co-hosting the “Hiroshima and Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Photo Poster Exhibition”with the Embassy in cooperation with the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation on this occasion.
 
The Ambassador invited all the participants to join in a moment of silence to honor the victims of the atomic bombings and to reaffirm our commitment .
 
After the moment of silence, Minister Pedersen and Mayor Greth delivered speeches. The Minister touched upon moving episodes of survivors in Hiroshima and Japan’s postwar path as a major economic power and peace-loving country. The Minister also mentioned the long and friendly relationship between Denmark and Japan and the importance of further cooperation.
 
After the ceremony, the participants saw the exhibition including the artifacts from the collection of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum as well as the atomic bomb photo posters and toured the bunker Regan Vest.
