Strengthening Japan–Denmark Healthcare and Life Sciences Cooperation

2026/1/19
On 19 January, Ambassador Mikio Mori hosted a reception at the Ambassador’s Residence, welcoming leaders from Japan and Denmark’s healthcare and life sciences sectors. The event encouraged lively exchange and new partnerships under the Joint Strategic Work Plan for the Japan–Denmark Strategic Partnership agreed between the prime ministers in October 2023.

Both Japan and Denmark face the shared challenge—and opportunity—of aging societies. Our cooperation builds on more than a century of exchange, exemplified by Dr. Hideyo Noguchi, whose 150th birth anniversary is marked this year and who conducted serum research in Copenhagen—an enduring symbol of curiosity, dedication, and friendship.

Participants included Japanese and Danish companies, visiting professionals, and public–private partners. Business collaboration continues to expand through new investments in biopharmaceutical production, innovation, and job creation.

We were honored by remarks from AGC Executive Vice President Yuichiro “Roy” Tashiro and grateful to Dr. Masami Sakoi, Vice‑Minister for Health, for leading the toast. The Embassy also thanks the Royal Danish Embassy in Tokyo for their continued support in advancing cooperation toward a healthier and more innovative future.
