2026/2/26
On February 26, 2026 (Reiwa 8), the Embassy of Japan in Denmark hosted a National Day Reception to celebrate His Majesty the Emperor’s 66th birthday. The event was attended by a wide range of guests, including representatives of the Danish Royal Household, government, local governments, business, academia, and the cultural sector, as well as members of the diplomatic corps, Japanese companies, and the Japanese community.
The reception began with a beautiful performance of the national anthems of Japan and Denmark by Japanese mezzo-soprano Ms. Rina Wako and pianist Ms. Yuka Ichikawa.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Mori highlighted that Japan and Denmark are strategic partners sharing fundamental values such as support for free trade, freedom of navigation, democracy, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. He noted the close cooperation between the two countries in areas including renewable energy, digitalization, and life sciences. Ambassador Mori also emphasized that the visit of His Majesty King Frederik to Japan last April served as a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations. Furthermore, he spoke about expanding exchanges in fields such as food and agriculture, maritime affairs, life sciences, and quantum technology, as well as the growing collaboration between local governments and with Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
The reception featured authentic Japanese cuisine prepared using carefully selected Danish ingredients, which was warmly received by the many attendees. The exhibition of Japanese food products and travel information was made possible through the generous support of Hiroshima Fish Traders Cooperative Association, Onigiri & Co., FSG Foods, Yes Chef!, JANAX, Taste of Hokkaido, JA ZEN-NOH FUKUREN, Oishi Shuzo, Ito En and Seidokan Japan Center. Notably, the sushi served at the event was made with premium Japanese rice supplied by Toyo Rice.
In addition to Japan travel information booths by ANA, JAL, and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), there was a G-Shock showcase by Henning Staehr, a watch retailer, and information on the special exhibition “Japanese Modern Posters” at Designmuseum Denmark, held with the support of Dai Nippon Printing (DNP). These were very well received by visitors.
