2026/3/5
Mr. Ove Ullerup, Chairman of the EAC Foundation – Asia House
Ambassador Mikio Mori
On March 5, 2026, the Embassy of Japan in Denmark hosted the Japan–Denmark maritime business event “Navigating the Future: Japan–Denmark Maritime Dialogue” at Asia House. Japan and Denmark are both leading maritime nations with world-class maritime industries and a long record of public–private cooperation. The event brought together numerous stakeholders from both countries, including representatives of leading companies.

In opening remarks, Ove Ullerup, Chairman of the EAC Foundation and Asia House, highlighted Asia House’s history as a former hub of the East Asiatic Company (EAC) and a focal point for maritime exchange between Asia and Denmark, underscoring the venue’s suitability for the occasion. Ambassador Mori then gave a speech touching on the impact of the current closure of the Strait of Hormuz on international shipping, the long-standing maritime cooperation between Japan and Denmark, and the ongoing efforts to decarbonise shipping. He emphasised the Japanese government’s commitment to revitalising Japan’s shipbuilding industry, and the important role that high-performance, high-quality Japanese-built vessels can play in achieving maritime decarbonisation.

The program featured presentations by experts from both countries. The Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping delivered a talk on decarbonizing the maritime sector, followed by presentations from Nihon Shipyard and Kawasaki Heavy Industries on Japanese shipbuilding. A pitching session then showcased Danish maritime startups offering technologies and services that contribute to decarbonization and the circular economy, with presentations by Renable, VesOPS, and Frugal Technologies.

The event also provided networking opportunities, fostering lively exchanges aimed at further business development and deepening Japan–Denmark maritime cooperation.

The Embassy of Japan in Denmark will continue to advance Japan–Denmark cooperation in the maritime field.
